Timeless Elegance: Ballet Meets Architecture Opens January 14, 2025
Robb Webb, an innovative photographer known for his ability to capture the grace, intensity, and artistry of dance movement, is the featured artist in a new exhibit entitled “Timeless Elegance: Ballet Meets Architecture by Robb Webb,” opening Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Gaston County Museum of Art & History, 131 W. Main St., Dallas, NC.
The public is invited to meet the artist during a reception on Saturday, January 18th from 2-4 pm. The exhibit showcases ballet dancers from Gaston Dance Theater photographed throughout the Museum of Art & History and locations around the area.
With a background in sports acrobatics, Webb, a Navy veteran, brings a unique insider’s perspective to his photography, enabling him to anticipate and capture moments that express both the physicality and emotional depth of his subjects. His work is celebrated for its dynamic composition and masterful use of light, which together convey the fluidity and power of dance in striking still frames.
“My photography captures the fleeting beauty, power, and vulnerability of dance in a way that transcends mere documentation,” Webb says. “With a nuanced understanding of both movement and light, my work explores the intersection of athleticism and artistry, highlighting the energy, tension, and fluidity inherent in the human form.”
Webb, a Morganton, NC who now lives in Lincolnton, NC, has collaborated with a wide range of dancers and companies across the country, from emerging artists to internationally recognized performers, across genres such as ballet, contemporary, and street dance. His commitment to authenticity and inclusivity shines through in his work, as he captures the distinct character and style of each dancer, honoring the diversity within the dance community.
In addition to his work in performance and studio photography, Webb’s projects often explore dance in unconventional spaces, merging movement with urban and natural landscapes to create compelling visual narratives. His photographs have been featured in dance publications, exhibitions, and campaigns, inspiring viewers to see dance not only as a performance art but as an intimate, transformative expression of the human experience.
Through his lens, Robb Webb invites audiences to experience dance in a new way, celebrating the art form’s beauty, strength, and emotional impact.
Webb was selected in 2020 for inclusion in the national ArtPop Street Gallery exhibit and is a self-taught photographer and accomplished watercolorist.
Admission to the Museum is free. Hours are Tuesday-Friday, 10am–5 pm and Saturday 11am-4pm.
